Welcome, I’m Laura Zabala, and I’m working on my first novel. I’ve written some free flash fiction, The Alter Mysteries: Death Shadow, which is available at my Patreon. I love the Fantasy and Science Fiction genres; some of my favorite authors are Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey, Isaac Asimov, Clive Barker, Jean Auel and John Milton (Paradise Lost is amazing).

My background involves the study of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, so culture and language punctuate my works. I attended Rutgers University and completed a double major in English and East Asian Languages and Area Studies (with three years study of Mandarin). My literature and language intensive bachelors involved a study abroad stint in Changchun, China and landed me an English teaching position in Chengdu, China. I’ve also traveled to England, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and have many countries to tick off my list. As someone well-traveled and educated in East Asian Culture, I have a unique perspective that comes out in my work and I enjoy writing a diverse set of characters.

If you’re interested in following a fledgling Fantasy/Sci-fi author stick around for updates on my writing journey and books in progress.
